Bruised Moons

Custom-made aquarelles that celebrate healing, self love and vulnerability

Two framed watercolor art prints with circles, one larger and one smaller, on a white surface against a neutral wall. A small round stone container, a white book, and a beige vase are also on the surface.

Bruised Moons

We were never taught to embrace our bruises. Or to see them for what they truly are: traces of physical trauma. This ongoing series of hand-painted and one-of-a-kind aquarelles, Bruised Moons, documents the evolution of the bruises on our body.

By taking a closer look, one can notice that these skin-deep imperfections hold a galaxy of colours. A galaxy that continues to morph into the most cosmic shapes and colours until our skin has fully healed itself.

Bruises tell us something important: they show us how fragile the human body actually is. They show us that we can heal from trauma. And how beautiful that process can be. So why hide them?

Please note: As an artist, my intention is not to condone nor glorify violence, abuse or aggression in any way, shape or form. I strongly reject any expressions of violence. The bruises that I paint are always a result of and inspired by my own clumsiness.
